Ah, the notorious pain reliever, the Unimed TENS Unit Massager. If I were to pick one among the vast selection of TENS units on the market it’d undoubtedly be the Unimed TENS Massager.
Formerly called the Unimed Pro Massager, this unit will be the go-to solution for many.
The Unimed Pro is all about professionalism, extended features and sleek design. Whether you’re a professional aiming to use the Unimed Massager to help clients, or you’re the DIY pain reliever, this may be the best bet.
Let me introduce my new favorite TENS unit in this Unimed Massager reviews, where I examine the Unimed Pro mainly in terms of back pain relief.

Short Story of Unimed
As you may be aware of Unimed nestled into the TENS unit market almost 10 years ago. Known for their professional quality TENS units, they produce high-end devices used both by medical providers and end-users.
Based in California, Unimed is proud of their welcoming customer support and they offer a lifetime warranty on all their devices plus a 30 day money back guarantee.
The Outer Covering of the Unimed Pro Massager
There’s no argument. The Unimed Pro stands out from the crowd of cheap TENS unit masses. A delicate, aluminum body covers all that matters inside.
When speaking of a TENS unit color matters the least in my opinion. However, it’s worth mentioning that the Unimed Pro comes in four color variations to please even picky customers.
The unit itself is small enough to be carried around. It just fits in your palm, and weighs only 12 ounces, making it ideal for portable pain relief device.
I have used this model of TENS before and find it extremely helpful for reducing my low back pain.An Amazon.com customer
Inside the Box of the Unimed Pro Massager
Much to our surprise, the Unimed Pro Massager comes without extra attachments: just what you will surely use throughout the treatments:
- The controller unit itself
- 2 pairs of electrodes
- 2 output cables for electrodes
- A charger
- A USB cable, so you can charge the unit with your computer
- A plastic holder
- And an instructions manual
Setting up is simple as it gets. When charged, connect the two output cables to the electrode pairs, turn on the Controller unit, choose your preferred mode and press the Play button.
The Theory Behind TENS and EMS
One of the reasons why the Unimed Pro has become my new favorite is its built in functionality.
Its greatest strength is the TENS combined with the EMS feature. Speaking of which. Do you know any cheap models that offer both TENS and EMS pulses? I think so.
Just a short recap: TENS is an acronym for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation where electrical pulses are sent right through your skin to activate nerve endings which block pain pathways sent to your brain.
EMS is an acronym for Electrical Muscle Stimulation is effective for weakened muscles. In a society of sitting, unused muscles are not uncommon indeed. Unused muscles also stiffen, weaken or inflame over time. With EMS you can increase these muscles’ endurance and strength.
See how powerful the combo of these two can be? You can possibly discard all your medication used for back pain, if you once succeed with this device.
Now let’s see, what the Unimed Pro holds for us.
The Unimed Pro’s Features
The system pleases us with 6 different massage modes, namely Tapping, Acupuncture, Deep Tissue, Foot, Cupping and Combo. All these set-ups inflict different types of pulses on your skin, but I cannot recommend which to pick – you’ll need to test out what works best for you.
You can adjust the treatment time with the ‘T’ button from 10 to 16 minutes of continuous therapy. Also, the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons are to set the strength of the pulses. You’ll see a scale on the LCD display’s bottom for that.
All these presented in a nice-looking, easy-to-read LCD display that shows only the important info. The reason I elaborated on this a bit, because I’m sure that non tech-savvy people always seek for devices which are easy to use.
Unimed has packed the Pro with a massive Lithium Ion battery that allows for an extended treatment time of 20 hours, pushing the portability limits to its maximum. Yes, this device will be the most excellent companion for those who travel by plane a lot.
What Types of Illnesses Does it Relief?
The Unimed Pro is designed to alleviate almost any types of pain (or back pain). Of course, if you managed to bruise your left arm, I’m not sure it will be effective.
Being more specific:
- Chronic pain
- Back muscle spasms
- Nerve aches and pains
- Lower back pain
- Back strains
As soon as you wire yourself up, you’ll start seeing results. And by that, I mean it. The first time you apply treatment to your aching parts, you’ll feel better.
Even chronic back pain sufferers will experience significant alleviation in 3-5 days of treatment at most.
Shortcomings of the Unimed Pro Massager
It’s hard indeed to come up with any shortcomings of the Unimed Pro.
There’s one thing worth mentioning here, though. As you’ll see when you check out its price, the Unimed Pro is no cheap option to relief back pain.
However, if you count the medication spent yearly on your pain combined with chiropractor visits, it turns out that it’s worth every penny.
I can heartily recommend the Unimed Pro Massager to anyone suffering from chronic to mild pain, and most notably lower back pain.
If you’re looking for medical grade TENS unit to be used on clients, or you’re having a hard time paying $100s of dollars each chiropractor visit, then the Unimed Pro will be a great choice.
